FAQ’s
Is Pilates for everyone?
Pilates is an exercise method suitable for most people. As with any other exercise method, always consult with your medical advisor before beginning an exercise program if you have physical limitations that require modifications to the exercises. Everyone who practices Pilates under proper medical advice and qualified instruction can obtain its benefits in their own particular way.
Is Pilates like Yoga?
Both methods of movement involve mind-body connection. Both emphasize the power of breathing. In all types of Yoga; meditation, relaxation and philosophy are great components. Pilates is mindful movement, typically more dynamic, systematic and anatomically based. Pilates can be done on the mat or specialized equipment, unique to the Pilates Method.
Can I still participate in classes if I have a bad back, shoulder or knee injuries?
You should always consult your physician before participating in a pilates class. The Pilates method was originally conceived as a form of physical therapy and later became a form of fitness. It can challenge the most athletic person and care for the injured. Pilates exercises are gentle, controlled and, under qualified instruction, they can be modified to accommodate your limitations, ensuring that you are doing the movements correctly within your abilities.
How often should I do Pilates?
Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise that can be practiced every day. At least three times a week is recommended to see the results, if it is your primary form of exercise. Once or twice a week, consistently, along with other exercising methods can also give you great results.
Does Pilates replace my regular workout?
The contemporary approaches of Pilates, like STOTT Pilates®️, offers a wide range of options to be in itself a great conditioning program. It is ideal to combine it with cardiovascular exercise like walking or running. It is a great complement to weight training or an athletic training program.
Which is better, one-on-one or group classes?
It depends on your goals, particular conditions and budget. One-on-one sessions are ideal since they offer a personal tailored program to suit your particular needs, in most cases letting you see the results sooner. Group classes normally consist in an overall workout that caters for a range of conditions and levels. They are motivating, fun and effective in small groups where the instruction is given emphasizing the pilates principles, and applying modifications that help the participants to obtain the most benefit of the exercises. It is always advisable to book a one-on-one session before joining a group class to introduce an instructor/client connection and clarify any questions or concerns.
